BLOCKSFINJ is a collaborative local project developing foam materials that are guided by architecture, art and industrial craftsmanship. Local designers-makers are invited to co-create furniture and objects with Blocksfinj and produce them at its parent factory in Lebanon. BLOCKSFINJ is the brainchild of Lebanese architect Chrystele Karam growing up with an inherited industrial culture revolving around the manufacturing process of “blocksfinj”, the vernacular name of one foam unit (2x1x1m) and the starting point of all BLOCKSFINJ creations. With every collection, Karam experiments with different production techniques and material combinations to develop foam patterns, materials and scales of design pieces that fit into living and work spaces. Working closely with her chemical engineer foam-producing father, Karam solidifies her belief that local production could be both high quality and accessible at the same time, playful and functional, inventive, seductive and necessary.
